My Right Foot

I've been away a couple of days, Ms Journal. I was over at Kirk's place. He and his wife have a condo in a fancy building about fifteen minutes from here. Kirk is a man I know at work. He doesn't operate the trains. He repairs them.

Kirk and Rae have a swimming pool and hot tub on the roof of their building and they invited me over for a swim. They're on vacation right now and gracious hosts. I stayed two days.

I tried walking a bit without my cast. It's really difficult. Painful too, if I attempt to walk normally. My ankle doesn't bend easily or support my weight. My toes hurt when they bend as well. I walk like a toddler just taking his first steps.

The pool at Kirk's is only chest deep, so it's ideal for walking in. I walked back and forth there for about thirty minutes, once on Wednesday night and twice on Thursday. Barbara, my physio girl, says walking in water is an excellent form of therapy. I wish there was a pool at the clinic.

It hurts a bit to walk, but I will keep trying! Posted by Hello

I remain shocked at the loss of muscle mass in my injured leg. I have virtually no strength in my right calf and the muscle has shrunk quite noticably.

Compare the two calf muscles. Amazing, eh? Posted by Hello

Rae promised to come fetch me on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and take me for a swim at their place. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I have physio therapy appointments. I'll be busy every day for the next few weeks, Ms J. I'll have to work hard to walk normally again. But that's my goal. To walk normally again. And to return to work in a month.

Kirk and Rae are fun people though. And good friends. I get to visit them twice a week for a while. I hope I don't become a nuisance.
